About Me-Kevin McDougal

My name is Kevin McDougal, I am a senior at the University of Dayton and plan on graduating this upcoming May with a major in history. Originally, I grew up in a suburb of New York City out on Long Island where I grew up with a passion for sports and history. Currently, I am a defensemen on the Club Lacrosse team for the University of Dayton where we are hoping to make it back to the National Championship.

After graduation, I will be interning in New York City for a sports media company where I will learn more about social media, radio production, and content creation. An interesting fact about me is that I have my own sports radio show for Flyer Radio as well as a color commentator for the University of Dayton’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.

For my portion of the Dayton Arcade Research Project, I will be exploring the transformative and innovative businesses that flourished at the Dayton Arcade or near the Dayton Arcade. Piecing together which businesses thrived while the Arcade was active, as well as seeing which businesses were popular for the entire Dayton community.

During my research, I analyzed the history of the food and beverage industry at the Dayton Arcade. The restaurant business became a need in the 1920s after there was a dramatic decrease in the number of women cooking from home. This paved the way for the restaurant business which had great success after the powerful economic surge in the Post-World War II era.
