Dayton Philharmonic

Created by Ryan Reed

Dayton Arcade undertook renovations in the mid-1970s and early 1980s to encourage more business and foot traffic in the Arcade. Part of the City of Dayton’s plan to revitalize the Arcade was to promote business by utilizing the arts. Beginning in 1981, the Dayton Philharmonic performed Christmas concerts in the Arcade, drawing massive crowds. The sounds of classical Christmas pieces by Tchaikovsky as well as family favorites reverberated under the dome. The Philharmonic only eccentuated the grandeur of Christmas at the Arcade. It also helped to stimulate business as crowds flocked to the dome and filled all the floors to hear a world class orchestra play their Christmas favorites.
