About Nora O’Connor

Nora O’Connor is from the Chicago suburbs and holds dual citizenship in both the United States and Ireland. She is a senior history major at the University of Dayton and graduating in May 2020. While attending the University of Dayton, her extracurriculars involved being a sorority member of Theta Phi Alpha and President of Distance 4 Dreams, a student organization that sponsors the wish of a child paired through A Special Wish Foundation. Nora enjoyed the summer going into her senior year by working at the Art Institute of Chicago.

She also enjoyed getting hands on experience her senior year as a student working in the University of Dayton Archives. Her career plan after graduating from the University of Dayton is to to enter the field in a museum or in archival work.

She loves reading, running, and volunteering in her free time. Nora hopes to expand both her knowledge and connection to the Dayton community through this project.

My topic was on the Friends of the Arcade and the grassroots effort of preserving the Dayton Arcade. I did a lot of research on the creation of the preservation movement in the United States which helped me give a better understanding of the value in preserving history in downtown Dayton. Listening to people’s memories has been beneficial to the interest that the Dayton community in preserving the Dayton Arcade.
